Compact VHS (VHS-C) tapes were never designed to last. Over time, environmental elements deteriorate the tape inside the cassette, causing a loss of quality. Within decades, your cherished memories will be permanently damaged. Using a VHS to digital service not only preserves the video, but also makes it easy to share these moments with friends & family.
VHS-C to Digital
Converting VHS-C to digital allows you to watch videos on any device, including computers, mobile phones, and smart TVs. Saving the digital files to a USB flash drive is a stable solution. Even better, keep your digital files on the cloud, so you can share the streaming memories with anyone in the world.
VHS to DVD: A Fool's Errand
VHS to DVD conversion will disappoint. A cumbersome DVD is almost as faulty as your original VHS-C cassette tape! Heirloom transfers video from VHS-C tapes directly to cloud storage. This means your digital video is backed up at multiple data centers, ensuring you'll never lose a file.
VHS-C Tape Conversion
Heirloom converts VHS-C tapes to MP4 files at 480p, or Standard Definition (SD). This 720x480 resolution is used by YouTube, Netflix, and other streaming services. As original VHS tape resolution is limited at 480 lines, it’s a waste of resources to convert your tapes to a higher resolution.
Digitize VHS-C
Our digitizing experts label each of your VHS-C cassettes with a unique tracking number. This number becomes the name of your digital video file. These files are immediately uploaded to your online Heirloom account, so you can monitor our exceptional quality at any time. This means no waiting to receive a returned DVD or flash drive before starting to add searchable descriptions to your files.
NTSC, PAL, and SECAM
Heirloom understands that your VHS-C tape may have originated elsewhere. That's why why we convert VHS-C tapes from all standards, not just the National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) format popular in North America. Your Phase Alternate Line (PAL) and Sequential Color and Memory (SECAM) formats are welcome at Heirloom.
VHS-C Tape Repair
Tape repair is free at Heirloom. We fix mangled tapes, or remove VHS-C cassettes from a broken adapter. Our experts also don’t charge for replacing faulty cassette cartridges in order to play your VHS-C tape. These “surgeries” are often successful, but we can make no guarantee to save every faulty tape, especialy those with "Sticky Shed" syndrome.
Transfer VHS-C to Digital
Our experts transfer VHS-C to digital in real time, making a high quality “1-to-1” capture. This could take an hour for each cassette, even if there's only a few minutes of video on the tape. Heirloom removes the blue "dead" space that's before and after that video signal. Because each customer has unique preferences for post-capture production, Heirloom’s VHS-C to digital service performs no other editing of your video.
Credit for Blank VHS-C Tapes
Heirloom charges a unit price for each VHS-C tape received in your order. After hours of playing your cassettes, we may discover that some of your tapes are completely blank! It's Heirloom policy to issue you a transferable credit, that never expires, for each blank VHS-C tape we encounter.
